Where we've helped!

Man of Honor meetings are held at 1300 hours on the 2nd Saturday of every other month beginning in January of each year at the Man of Honor Clubhouse at 1425 Townline Road in Wausau, WI.

The Man of Honor Society was founded on 14 May 2004.  We currently have 564 members, 48 of those are Associate Members.  The Man of Honor are a unique group of veterans dedicated to helping fellow veterans in need and their families.  We are a non-profit and non-political organization, and we have no dues in the Society.  People who join the Society are well aware that our goal is to help veterans in need.  Everything we do and accomplish is done strictly on a volunteer basis.  In the past, we have held one raffle annually to raise funds to meet our goals.

Example of what we have done:

  • In 2016 we distributed over $49,000 to veterans in need.
  • The mother of an injured solder wanted to be with her son while he was hospitalized out of town.  We paid for her to go there and paid the expenses she incurred while with her son.
  • We have built many wheelchair ramps on homes and trailers, so the disabled were allowed easy access to the front doors of their homes.
  • We sent parents of a Soldier who was wounded in Iraq to Bethesda, MD so they could visit their son who had lost both legs and an arm in war.
  • In 2012 the Man of Honor brought the American Veterans Traveling Tribute to Wausau to show this elite tribute to all who were interested.  This is also called the Vietnam Wall.

An estimated 25,000 mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters of these brave veterans had an opportunity to show their respect.  A huge task to say the least, but the Man of Honor, with their dedicated people, handled it with ease and perfection.  These are only a few of the things that we have done.  We have raised and distributed over $400,000 to help veterans where and when they needed help.  We feel we are a very unique and proud organization, and we are represented by the nation's finest veterans from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and members of the National Guard and Army Reserve.  We range in age from 22 to 92.

General Douglas MacArthur once said at a farewell speech to the cadet corps at West Point in 1962: "This does not mean that you are warmongers.  On the contrary, the soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.  But always in our ears ring the ominous words of Plato, the wisest of all philosophers.  "Only the dead have seen the end of war."  New things happen every day in the life of our veterans and in our organization whenever one of these brave veterans needs help, the Man of Honor members are there.
